Testing your starter motor out of the vehicle is an easy task with the appropriate tools and equipment.
Here's how we recommend you test a starter once it has been removed from the engine.
First step,
Get a jumper pack, or a battery and jumper leads ready at a vice. Fasten starter motor in the vice.
Next step,
Connect the positive cable to the battery stud on the solenoid. Connect the negative cable to the body of the starter.
To test,
You will need to connect the energize terminal to the positive terminal using a wire.
If the starter motor is working well, the drive pinion should shoot out the front of the starter as it spins over quickly.
